On March 28, Tri Water New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Wuhu Shipyard, officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the full electrification of national transportation with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of New Energy of the Maldives in Wuhu, finalizing an export order for 32 electric sightseeing vessels with a capacity of 100 passengers each. This marks the first large-scale batch export of electric sightseeing vessels from China, representing a crucial step forward for the country’s green shipbuilding industry in its “going global” efforts.

Relevant officials from the Ministry of New Energy of the Maldives attended the signing ceremony, Hua Zhonggang, Deputy Head of Yijiang District, Wuhu City, was present to witness the event, and Zheng Tianbao, Chairman of Tri Water New Energy, along with the core management team, participated in the meeting.

Tailor-made strategy: “Water first, land and air follow, achieving full-area coverage”

The 32 electric sightseeing vessels with a capacity of 100 passengers each, signed in this agreement, deeply integrate advanced battery energy storage technology, intelligent ship control systems, and innovative design concepts. They achieve zero emissions, low noise, and low vibration throughout operation, effectively replacing traditional fuel-powered vessels, significantly reducing carbon emissions and marine pollution, and protecting the Maldives’ precious coral reef ecosystems with a quiet and comfortable sailing experience.

With this as a starting point, Tri Water New Energy will tailor a one-stop green mobility solution for the Maldives, clearly defining the implementation path of “first achieving breakthroughs in green water transportation, followed by full electrification of land and low-altitude transportation.” In the water sector, the plan includes deploying diversified green vessels such as 100-passenger electric sightseeing vessels, 50-passenger electric high-speed boats, and modular electric houseboats. In the land sector, it will promote electric buses, electric taxis, electric logistics vehicles, and shared electric bikes as supporting transportation options for both public livelihood and tourism.

Supporting infrastructure will be built, including onshore solar-storage integrated energy systems, island-wide charging and swapping networks, and specialized ship repair yards, to establish a modern green transportation system characterized by “waterfront initiative, land coordination, land-sea synergy, and full-area coverage.”

Technical Support: Integrated Solution for Ships, Vehicles, and Energy Storage

Leveraging its industry-leading technology and engineering capabilities, Tri Water New Energy has developed a full-scenario and full-area electrification solution that integrates ships, vehicles, and energy storage. By creating green, intelligent, standardized, and family-based vessel types, supporting port charging and swapping stations, mobile battery-swapping vessels, and other facilities, and establishing a full-lifecycle operation and maintenance service system, the company achieves deep integration of transportation equipment and energy systems. The solution customized for the Maldives this time encompasses a package of initiatives, including green waterborne vessels, land-based electric vehicles, as well as solar-storage energy systems, charging and swapping infrastructure, and ship repair and construction facilities, demonstrating Tri Water New Energy’s integration capabilities in the field of transportation and energy convergence.

Wuhu Manufacturing Goes Global: Cultivating High-End Equipment for the International Market

Wuhu is home to industrial clusters such as automobiles, shipbuilding, robotics, and the low-altitude economy. This collaboration establishes a “land, sea, and air” integrated zero-carbon transportation framework, creating a green transportation ecosystem that features “land-sea synergy and full-area coverage.” It will help Wuhu upgrade its export-oriented economy, deepen economic, trade, and cultural exchanges with countries such as the Maldives, and enhance the city’s international influence.

This collaboration marks an important step for Wuhu’s local enterprises in helping China’s green and intelligent ships set sail for the global market, and serves as an innovative practice in promoting China’s full-area electrification solutions overseas, with vessels as the carrier. Tri Water New Energy will strictly fulfill its contractual obligations, deliver with high standards, and fully support the comprehensive electrification transformation of transportation and energy in the Maldives, jointly building a sustainable zero-carbon island future.
