Recently, the 49,400 DWT IMO Type II product oil/chemical tanker was successfully undocked at the Weihai Base. Representatives of the shipowner, DNV classification society and relevant leaders of the company attended and witnessed the ceremony.

Since the keel-laying of the vessel, Weihai Base has been operating at full capacity with multiple ships under parallel construction, posing numerous challenges to the project. Rising to the challenges, the project team innovatively implemented the modular construction process for outfitting and piping units. A total of 20 outfitting modules have been completed, including none in the cargo tank area and 11 in the stern area.

Compared with the conventional shipbuilding mode, the modular construction of outfitting and piping units boasts remarkable advantages.

It delivers higher production efficiency. Unit pre-outfitting is carried out concurrently with hull construction and is not constrained by the progress of hull works. The assembly efficiency surpasses that of block pre-outfitting and onboard outfitting, cutting the overall construction period by 9.6%.

It ensures more stable construction quality. Outfitting work is moved indoors to workshops, where the working environment is stable and complete inspection measures are available. This effectively improves the precision of equipment installation and reduces the on-site rework rate.

It delivers better construction cost performance. Relying on balanced manpower allocation via workshop production lines and rational resource planning, waste is reduced to achieve controllable savings in shipbuilding costs.

It provides stronger full-cycle support. Hydraulic and electrical tests can be conducted in advance during the unit prefabrication stage. Once the modules are mounted on the vessel, only interface connection is required before commissioning. Meanwhile, this process boasts high versatility and can be adapted to multiple series of ship types, improving the reuse rate of design outputs.
